The Denver Voice offers several internship opportunities. Since we are a small but growing organization, an internship with us is a chance to fully engage in the workings of an innovative nonprofit, a monthly newspaper and a thriving vendor program. You will spend your time working closely with the staff and individuals on the streets, learning practical and professional skills. Our internships are unpaid but are flexible and will work around busy school schedules. There are opportunities to be involved with every aspect of the paper, including writing, photography, graphic design layout, working with homeless vendors, marketing and advertising and office management.
- Editorial Assistant
- Internship Description:
The Editorial Assistant will work closely with the Voice editorial staff to generate story ideas, do background research, and write stories for the paper. Stories range from small news briefs to larger mini-features and feature-length articles. The editorial assistant will also attend weekly meetings with the editorial staff to keep up-to-date on the editorial calendar and development of stories, and will assist with solicitation for submissions and processing of written submissions. This internship requires attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, a creative mind and a willingness to engage in the homeless and marginalized communities of Denver. Journalistic and writing experience is a plus. - Photography Assistant
- Internship Description:
The Photography/Imaging intern will assist the Art Director in determining the appropriate photography or, in some cases, other visual media to accompany written work. The intern will help with the taking of photographs and aid in the electronic cataloguing of images. This position also allows for the photographer to conceive and work on independent photography projects that are relative to the mission of the Voice. In addition, the intern will have the opportunity to manipulate and create images using graphic software. This internship requires photographic experience (1+ years), familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe InDesign, excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills and an ability to adhere to strict deadlines. - Graphic Design Assistant

The Graphic Design intern will work closely with our Art Director to discuss design, themes and layout of the paper. They will work on a variety of design projects including newspaper layout, advertisements, and marketing materials for events. They will assist in making copy & graphic adjustments for print. They will assist in continuing development and maintenance of the website.

- Office Manager Assistant
- Internship Description:
The Office Manager assistant will manage and update donor, subscription and contact databases. They will also monitor and distribute monthly subscription, business and fundraising mailings. They will prepare and file expense reports for the Voice staff and organize and manage incoming solicitations, letters, subscriptions and submissions to the Voice. They will also help facilitate our volunteers including scheduling and tracking volunteer hours as well as matching volunteers to appropriate tasks. This internship requires excellent organizational skills and an ability to work will in a team setting. - Marketing/Advertising Assistant
- Internship Description:
The Marketing Assistant will analyze potential market territories and work with the office manager to continue developing a marketing/advertising campaign to solicit advertisements for the Voice paper. The marketing intern will assist in scheduling and processing ads and service accounts, and will help with designing ads, proofreading ads, completing sales calls and working with clients. Qualifications include strong communication and phone skills and strong self-motivation. Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and excellent organizational skills is also required. - Vendor Program Assistant
- Internship Description:
The Vendor Program assistant will work with the Vendor Program Director to help manage the recruitment, orientation and training of vendors for the paper. This internship also involves managing and updating the vendor database. This internship offers the unique opportunity to work closely with individuals who are homeless or formerly homeless, and to have hands-on experience with street populations of Denver. This internship requires the ability to work well with a diverse group of people and the ability to identify networking, outreach opportunities in the Denver community.
